Kala Pani at the time of Britishers in India was a concept to send the lawbreakers and freedom fighters to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands so that they could never come back to the dwelling area. It would not have been adventurous I am sure but the feeling to be going to this place would have filled the lawbreakers with exhilaration and zeal, to be reaching a place which is feared by most. Once having reached there, the conditions would have gone worse and lack of facilities, staying locked in a cemented fort with no access to the world outside, no option to move out and nowhere to go, the people would have got suffocated to death before they would actually have been killed. The inmates could have been some hardcore criminals and those who would have done smaller crimes would be suffering in the hands of those serious offenders.

The management of the jail and the superintendents would have been exploiting the criminals and even molesting them as and when the need to overpower them arose. Being beaten by the officials would have been a regular practice as many seek a sense of satisfaction in dominating the powerless. There would have been that one inmate who would have been close to the management and a brutal culprit, who would have beaten his fellow captives and there would have been no running away from him. The jobs allotted to the captives would have been conveyed through him and he would have sat there smoking, asking everyone else to do it and doing the least himself.

The food and water would have been as dirty as filth with no real meaning to it and the offenders would have been forced to eat it when the only way to exist would have been that food. There would have been no open sky to see as the criminals would have been stuffed in those cells with no exit and they would have talked to each other about how life outside would have been going. There would definitely have been cases of depression who would have felt alone, deficient and sapped in those dingy cells.
