I recently got an opportunity to work with one of the principals of the group of Institutes I work for. It was an international Conference and I was luckily chosen to host it and it gave me a wonderful chance to meet professionals, Vice Chancellors, and Businessmen from India and abroad. The principal I am talking about is Ms. Shivani Kapoor and she heads the College of Higher Education of PSIT group of colleges. I saw her running all over the place to make this event a success as it was organized by their college and she didn’t leave a single stone unturned. She is known for organizing events quite regularly and with utmost perfection. What makes this success possible:
- Involvement :
I have worked with several seniors who usually sit in their AC offices and guide from there. They expect things to be done their way without working at the grass root level with the team. Most of the time they fear losing their self-made ego and respect. Managers who don’t get involved with the team don’t have employee commitment and the team is least motivated.
However, Ms. Shivani Kapoor was working not only with the faculty members who were doing it all, but she was also answering the students who had volunteered to work for the event. I saw her getting the banners fixed and sitting among the students to help them resolve their issues. It was easy to work with her and she was a leader who led from the front. She was there, out of her Ac cabin, running with the team, taking the lead if anyone couldn’t do anything; and believe me, she motivated everyone to do it the same way as she did and with the same zeal.
2. Knowing it well :
A good leader is not only a good orator, he or she knows everything that his or her work demands. Ms. Kapoor also knew it all well. She was not only attentive to what she was supposed to do, but she could also handle it all as she knew what everyone was supposed to do. She handled the mike at the podium multiple times when there was something the hosts didn’t know about or if there was a glitch in the way they did it. I didn’t find her clueless ever.
3. A constant Smile:
There was nothing like a serious scolding to anyone and she knew how to smile even after telling the other person what went wrong. The smiles give the team members another chance to work hard and rectify it. A leader who makes it too serious for the team members loses the team members forever.
4. Patting their back :
She appreciated everyone for what everyone did, good or a little wrong. Without highlighting a mistake, she told every team member to keep it as good as it was during the conference. The ones who weren’t perfect also got tied up and would never deny working with Ms. Shivani Kapoor again.
The best kind of people are the ones that come into your life and make you see the sun where you once saw clouds. The people that believe in you so much, you start to believe in you too. The people that love you, simply for being you. The once in a lifetime kind of people
Thanks a lot for being such a wonderful team and congratulations for the success of the event.
Nothing was possible without you
I hope you have a feeling of self satisfaction today.
Thanks for being a wonderful team.
I am overwhelmed.
The pleasure is all mine Ma’am and of every team member to be working with you.
