What is it that the toppers know and an average student doesn’t?
Breaking the subject: Breaking a subject into chapters and further breaking the chapter into useful topics is what a Topper does really well. An average student sees the subject as one lump and lacks the art of breaking it. In such a case, the student should be taken to a tutor who can do the breaking part for him. Books look very heavy and too much to read from, for a student who doesn’t know this art of breaking.
Short Notes: Making very short notes while reading is another way to avoid going back to the topic once read. The notes should be as short as a word for a sentence or an idea. Too much of writing would also defeat the purpose as the student would end up writing the whole thing in the notebook.
Revising regularly: No topic should be read, prepared and be left for the exam. Every topic should be revised at least once or twice in a week. Revising is the key to score well. To have ample time to revise, the syllabus should get over at least 2 months before the exam.
Discussing the topics with friends: The more one discusses, the easier the subject gets. Discuss with the ones who are willing to talk about it and have prepared as much as you have. Avoid those who might end up feeling jealous of you or who haven’t read it as much as you have.
Eat the ugliest frog Second: See that you pick the most difficult subject the second during preparation. You can prepare one easy subject to make you feel motivated and then take a difficult one to finish it before it starts badgering you. Never leave the difficult one for the end as it might scare you even more.
Avoid studying while you are upset: Either avoid studying while you are upset or see that you are able to focus so much on studying that you forget the reason you were upset for. You can’t remain upset and keep studying. You will consume more energy and the rate of absorption would be very low.
Develop the habit of reading: Avid readers have very little difficulty in coping with any subject. The reason is that they find reading interesting and they understand most of what they read. So, during vacations or a few months before getting to some serious studies, take a few interesting novels and get to read them. The capacity to absorb the information so written in the books is what makes one good in studies.
Audio Books / Lectures: Listening to lectures or audio books before getting to reading, makes the topic or subject easier. Once you have heard what you have to read, you will find understanding it easier and the effort would be reduced to half. Even while listening to the lectures or the audiobooks, it’s advisable to make short notes so that revising it is convenient.
It’s really good sir….
