As I watched “Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2, ” an Indian movie, I found a lot many similarities between this movie and the old and famous “Godfather.” The movie starts with the death of Sardar Khan, the head of a Mafia family. Faizal, Sardar’s son, takes over the Mafia throne of his father after his father and brother are murdered consecutively by other prevailing gangs. He has no plan of entering the mafia until he finds it necessary to take the revenge for his family. So was the case with Michael Corleone who, after his father’s and brother’s death, becomes the Godfather. As the story moves, Faizal and Mike want to come out of their Mafia Image and want a safer life for their family. The idea of family and it’s protection is there in both the movies. Also, an attack on Faizal’s family is somewhat a replica of Godfather where Mike’s family is attacked in the comfort of its house.

The role of “Definite” in “Gangs..” is an imitation of the role of “Vincent Santino Corleone” in “Godfather.” Both of them protect the Mafia head. In case of “Definite,” Faizal is his stepbrother and in case of “Vincent Santino” Mike is his uncle. They are both young and short-tempered and want to be the heir of the mafia throne. Both of them pretend to have joined the enemy without actually doing it. The only difference that remains is that Vincent remains honest to Mike until the end and is clever enough to understand that his valor and honesty to Mike would make him his heir. However, “Definite” makes the end a little clumsy by killing Faizal and relying on JP Singh, who himself has a wobbly and weak character.

As one watches Gangs of Wasseypur, Part 1 and 2, one can find it a bit by bit imitation of Godfather from Part 1 to 3.
