Robert Redford once quoted, “San Franciscans are very proud of their city, and they should be. It’s the most beautiful place in the world.” One’s journey to California in U.S. remains incomplete without spending a few days in San Francisco. The city offers a great deal of places to see and tempts people to visit over and over.
The city is known for its scenic beauty, an extraordinary history and famous shopping areas which attract millions of tourists from all over the world every year.
The places in San Francisco that attract the maximum number of tourists are Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge. To start with, Fisherman’s wharf consists of Pier 39, which is a shopping complex located at the edge of the wharf district. It is famous for the sun bathing seals who have a gala time being fed by the tourists. Aquarium of the Bay at the Wharf is a home to 30,000 marine creatures including sharks, jellies, octopuses, etc. The wharf offers fine dinning restaurants, street food, street performers and a picturesque view for selfies and group photographs.
Adjoining is the Ripley’s Believe it or not Museum. The wharf is swarming with tourists and can be given a few hours of the day before one moves on to see other attractions. A little far from the wharf is Union Square which is one of the optimum shopping regions of San Francisco.
Not very distant is a neighborhood that is altogether different from the main city. Spread across 8 blocks within San Francisco and yet dissimilar, China Town is a home to the biggest Chinese community in the U.S. It offers tasty Chinese food, a distinct culture and a sensation of the eastern mystique.
To explore more, many ferries from the Fisherman’s wharf depart for Alcatraz Island every day. Known for its ill-famed prison, the Island was once an abode to the first light house in western United States. As tourists walk through the cells of the prison, they can feel how life there could have been like. The walls of the cells still echo with the traces of the earlier times. Walking through the cells of the prison, which have once been a home to the most notorious convicts, might give one goose bumps.
Spread across in more than 1000 acres, Golden Gate Park has a conservatory of flowers and the peaceful Japanese tea garden. It is a place to enjoy nature and rejuvenate after being through the bustle of the city.
The golden Gate bridge, which represents the city, is built at the mouth of the bay and connects the city of San Francisco to the Marine County. It is one of the biggest suspension bridges of the world. Millions of cars drive through the bridge every year. The Sidewalks give an opportunity to the pedestrians to walk across the bridge or just stand and experience the bay on one said and the Pacific Ocean on the other.
Baker beach to the west of the bridge provides a spectacular view of the ocean and the marine headlands visible at a distance. It has the status of being the best sandy beach but the alluring view makes it all the more magnificent and worth visiting.
To conclude, San Francisco has hilly landscapes, beaches, a prisoners’ island, a famous shopping complex at the pier, a Chinese neighborhood and a 1.7 miles suspension bridge spanning over the Golden Gate strait, making it a perfect tourist destination.
